After all it’s all about promoting yourself – your experience and expertise.

Who better to manage your online reputation and create a positive first impression, than you? Here’s a couple of free on-line profile services to consider.

About.me

Think of it as an on-line business card, About.me is an online service that allows providers to create a professional on-line profile.

Start by creating a profile on www.about.me and then linking your profile to your practice website (or directly to your physician profile or bios). Your splash page points visitors to your content from around the web – including social media sites, review sites and email, should you wish. Your profile also provides some basic stats – i.e., how many people see your profile, where they’re coming from, and what they do on your page.

View an example.

Zerply

Zerply is great way to present yourself professionally on-line. They offer professionally designed templates, including mobile. What’s unique, patients can give you an endorsement and help build your “personal brand”.

How to promote your profile

So you’ve set up a profile but not really sure how to use or promote it. Here are some handy suggestions:

Add it to your physician bio or profile page

Add it to a hospital and or payor provider directory

Add it to your Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter accounts, or blog

Add it to your e-mail footer

Print it on your business card

The answer to this is that your Google Places listing needs to be verified and optimized. Why is this important? Google has recently (within 2 months of this posting) merged your Google Maps page listing with your main website listing for many businesses. This makes optimizing your Google Places page all the more important. Here are a few simple steps to make sure that your Google Places page is presenting your business in the correct light:

Make sure the information on your Google Places page is correct. You’d be surprised how many times its not!

Double check your phone number and call it just to make sure! iPhone and Android users (and most other smart phones) use Google Places in their directory look-up Apps. You’ll end up getting more calls from your Google Places page than from your website.

Is your logo and branding present on your Google Places page? Updated imagery can be added once your Google Places page is verified. You can also add videos from YouTube and up to 10 photos.

What do your reviews say about you? Reputation management is very important to any business so making sure to respond appropriately to reviews lets your patients know that you’re listening.

Categorize your listing Google uses categories to place your Google Places page on the right searches. Without the proper optimization, your listing won’t have any categories. Where would you like to appear?

If you have further questions about optimizing your Google Local listing or being found on searches, contact us and an SEO specialist will be in touch with you with recommendations tailored just for you.

It’s certainly all the rage these days. There are many practical applications of it but when someone asks how it can best be used in health care… and add value, we need to stop and think. Certainly we are all intimately aware of health care’s unique challenges – security, interoperability, professional liability, and the like.

Having said that, let’s try to keep it simple and come up with a few but practical uses.

Collecting and sharing patient stories

Providing smoking cessation support

Recruitment of health care staff

Discussion regarding advanced medical directives and end of life issues
