How to Find the Right Photos for Your Website

When building a website, it’s important to focus on everything from content to colors to photos in order for it to perform well. Here are a few tips to guide you in finding the right photos for your website.

Choose photos of real people

Even though stock photos can help enhance the look of a site, studies show that people prefer photos of real people that work for the company. According to an article by Nielson Norman Group, viewers spent 10 percent more time viewing profile photos. This helps to substantially increase the amount of time viewers stay on the site.

Unique photos are more powerful

Images lose their affect when you see the same image posted on billboards and other websites. Be willing to either spend a little more on stock images or create custom images to ensure they’re unique.

Focus on conveying the right feeling

Images convey feeling to people viewing the website. Make sure the images you choose reflect the correct emotion so you don’t convey an incorrect sense of the service or business.

List product details with an image

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but if people are planning on purchasing a product, they need the words too. If your site promotes any products, be sure to list all the details of the product to minimize the amount of research your visitor needs to do.
